Not picked up a 3DS yet? Nintendo is hoping to get you on board this Christmas with a special promotional offer.
From November 27th 2013 through to 13 January 2014, If you register a 3DS system and one of 15 selected games, you will be given a digital download of Super Mario 3D Land absolutely free.
The 15 selected games included in this promotion are:
- Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros.
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
- Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
- Fire Emblem: Awakening
- Luigi’s Mansion 2
- LEGO CITY® Undercover: The Chase Begins
- Sonic Lost World (Nintendo 3DS version)
- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate (Nintendo 3DS version)
- Pokémon X
- Pokémon Y
Not a bad list really, though by most accounts the handheld version of Sonic: Lost World is a bit of a stinker.
It’s probably no coincidence that the timing of this promotion comes so close to the release of Super Mario 3D World on Nintendo’s next-gen home console, the diminutive WiiU (our review will posted around the time of release). That’s no reason to be cynical about either title though - both are absolutely fantastic offerings.
AATG Contributor Kay reviewed Super Mario 3D Land back in 2011, awarding it a full five-star-score.
“It’s easily the best portable Mario platformer ever made,” Kay wrote in his review. “While it never quite reaches the dizzying heights of the two Galaxy games, it’s certainly a much tighter and focused experience and ideal for newcomers to the series”. Crikey.
If you’re not familiar with the game, here’s a trailer.
