On Tuesday, I wrote about Avalanche and Square Enix confirming the release of Just Cause 3, as well as confirming that there would be no microtransactions as had been speculated by the screenshot leaks last week.
Game Informer is running exclusive coverage of all news over at the Just Cause 3 hub. Today, they’ve released new screenshots and info on the upcoming sandbox.
The returning protagonist, Rico Rodriguez, will be traveling to his home country, a fictional Mediterranean island called Medeci. Medeci is a sprawling 400-square mile map, including three explorable areas, which will all be available from the very start (no pesky locked sections in this sandbox, oh no!). Rico can take control of Medeci’s towns, using them as home bases, supply drops, vehicle stashes and more.
It’s been noted by a number of news outlets that Just Cause 3 will be full of explosions and the latest screenshots certainly confirm that wanton destruction is a prime feature in Rico’s future. According to Game Informer, Just Cause 3 is set several years after the last installment, as Rico has been aged significantly since last we saw him. His infamous grappling hook is back - and can apparently cling to almost everything (yep, including that airplane). Rico also has access to a new wingsuit, which will allow him to free fall from practically anywhere and achieve some pretty intense speeds. I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty excited to see if how the wingsuit flight mechanics will work, and how far I can push free-falling flight before crashing to my untimely demise.
The Just Cause franchise is an explosive one and it’s been noted that ex-members of the Burnout team have joined Avalanche to help bring more of that big boom action to Just Cause 3. Over all controls have been tightened, and vehicle handling improved dramatically.
There’s still no information about the story, but I’m sure that we’ll be titillated and teased for a few more months as bits and pieces are pushed out. Still, it looks like the franchises’ third installment is on course to be pretty epic.
Just Cause 3 is scheduled for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC sometime in 2015, though no official date has been announced yet. We’ll be keeping you posted, so follow us on Facebook and Twitter or subscribe to our RSS feed to be in-the-know.
