Developer TT Games has shown a new trailer and screenshots from its latest movie tie-in, LEGO Jurassic World.
Despite being named after the latest film in the Jurassic Park series, which is due in cinemas this June, LEGO Jurassic World works its way through all 4 films across its 20 levels. Over 100 playable characters are promised, and TT Games has clearly had some fun with its latest venture. Lex, the young girl who was known for screaming an awful lot in the movies (as well as declaring “It’s a Unix system!” when confronted with an OS that was not, in any way, Unix-based), retains her vocal powers - she can scream loud enough to shatter glass and deafen characters.
Elsewhere, it’s business as usual for the LEGO franchise, as TT Games resurrects mechanics that will be familiar to anyone who has played their previous games. So the environment will need to be smashed in order to reveal building blocks, simple puzzles block progress throughout levels, and classic scenes from the films are given a slapstick twist throughout copious cutscenes.
In one new mechanic, the dinosaurs themselves are playable this time around, and their abilities can be used to access new areas. The Triceratops, for example, can break through barriers. Still, this is very much a LEGO game in the same vein as those that have come before, and while that’s good news for fans and the series’ legions of younger fans, older gamers can’t be blamed for wishing that TT Games would take a few more risks. Still, the games reliably sell millions each year for publisher Warner Bros. Interactive, so you can’t blame them for wanting to stick with a successful formula.
LEGO Jurassic World will be released in June for 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and (deep breath!) Wii U.
