Square Enix has unveiled Hitman GO, a mobile iteration of the popular franchise due to hit iOS later this year.

In development by new studio Square Enix Montreal, Hitman GO reimagines Agent 47′s exploits as a turn-based strategy game. With an attractive visual style that takes its cues from dioramas, the game requires you to navigate grid-based levels to avoid guards’ patrol routes as you seek to bump off your targets. Traditional franchise features such as disguises, sniper rifles and the character’s Silverballer pistols are all present and correct.

Speaking about the game, the developer had this to say: “We developed the game with a small core team, which allowed us to iterate fast, come up with solutions more easily and embrace a development style that felt very fresh for us. When we pitched this slightly leftfield concept to the team at IOI, they absolutely loved it. Now, Hitman GO is almost ready for launch and you might even read about it online in the coming weeks as we do some testing to make sure it’s all working properly before we launch it globally.”

It’s certainly an interesting prospect, and we’re intrigued to see how the classic gameplay style of the series will translate to a turn-based approach. We’ll be sure to check it out once the game is released later this year.
