With today marking the 2 year anniversary of the release of Age of Empires 2 HD, developer Hidden Path has announced that a new expansion in the works.
Last year’s expansion Forgotten Empires was first conceived back in 2013, when Hidden Path chose to work closely with a team picked from dedicated community members to release a new expansion for the almost 14 year old game. Forgotten Empires was well-received by players, and so the same team will be responsible for this latest addon.
As well as having a new expansion in the works, Hidden Path will continue to improve Age of Empires 2 HD with regular patches. Patch 3.9 will adjust and improve various gameplay issues, making playing the game a smoother and more enjoyable experience according to the developer, and will be rolled out soon to all users.
Age of Empires 2 HD is basically a re-release of the classic PC strategy game, only with support for higher resolutions and featuring all the benefits that come with having Steam Workshop integrated. The strategy genre may have moved on since 1999, but there’s no denying that Ensemble’s game was a classic when it was first released and it’s nice that people are not only still able to play the game, but that it’s continuing to be supported with brand new content.
