Metroid Prime 2 ‘Light Suit’ Figure Announced

Bounty Hunter Samus Aran is best known for her iconic red-and-orange Varia suit, despite the fact that her armor has appeared in different colors and builds throughout Metroid history, some of which defy the bulky, engineered look of the original suit. But my personal favorite has to be the Light Suit from Metroid Prime 2, the design of which balances sleek understatedness with… mystic glowing lights or something. Anyway, it looks like the product of ancient technology, as it should.

The good news is that those glowing details are going to be included in this 1/4 scale figure (standing at 20 inches tall) through a selection of LEDs. The bad news is that the light details will only be included in the extra limited variation of the figure. There will be 2500 regular figures, selling for $339.99 each, and 750 extra limited editions going for $364.99. The figures won’t be out until Q1 2015 but you’ll need to put down a $20 pre-payment if you want to order. Fortunately the pre-order fee is credited against the price of the figure.

The Light Suit figure is part of the Metroid Arts range, and there are plans to extend the range in the future. Each model comes with a numbered base and authenticity card which will allow you to purchase the next model in the series with an identically numbered base - the OCD side in me appreciates the touch.

In Metroid Prime 2 the Light Suit was an end-game item that allowed Samus to move through the corrosive atmosphere of Dark Aether without taking damage. I get the feeling that as faithfully crafted as this figure is, it probably can’t do that… probably takes fall damage as well. Still, it has points of articulation in Samus’ free hand so you can pose her into a thumbs up (or down) position. That’s gotta be worth something.
