Metro: Redux, a compilation of both Metro: 2033 and Metro: Last Light is coming later this Summer, developer 4A has announced.
The game, which will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, has apparently benefited from over a year of additional work, with the dev having managed to add in all of the graphic enhancements seen in the second game to the first title. Play Metro 2033 and you’ll be able to wipe your visor clean, the lighting engine has been overhauled and the game’s cutscenes have been altered to a first-person perspective.
If you prefer to play the original game in all its slightly-shonky glory, then fret not - players are able to seamlessly switch between the original and enhanced versions. In addition, Last Light can now be played in “Spartan” mode - focusing more on frenetic gunplay - while 2033 can be played in “Survival” mode, bringing a greater emphasis on resource gathering and survival. “Ranger” mode is also present in both games from the off, upping the difficulty even further.
All previously-released content is present, and - on PlayStation 4, at least - both games run at full 1080p resolution and at 60 frames per second.
While we haven’t managed to get around to reviewing Last Light yet, we thoroughly enjoyed 2033. Our man Nic scored it 9/10, stating “Metro 2033 is an incredible entry into the FPS survival horror genre, and is a game which you absolutely need to play.”
