Metal Gear Online will be included with MGSV: The Phantom Pain

Hideo Kojima has debuted the first footage of Metal Gear Online during The Game Awards in Las Vegas over the weekend.

Coming alongside the new footage was the announcement by publisher Konami that Metal Gear Online be included with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, when that game is released next year. In the video, which you can see below, several new gameplay systems were shown off. Focusing on what has been termed “Tactical Team Operations”, Metal Gear Online features a class system said to “more uniquely defines the strengths and abilities of player characters on the battlefield.”

A pilotable bipedal mech armed with a machinegun is shown off extensively, along with a toy dog - which can be used to distract guards, who fall in love with its cute looks. Lastly, we grab a glimpse of Revolver Ocelot (who you can see in some of the screenshots below the trailer). Konami says that Ocelot is just one of the characters from the main game who will make an appearance in the online mode - Venom Snake has also been confirmed.

There’s currently no official word on when Metal Gear Solid V will be released, though some fans are speculating that it could come out on June 22nd next year. At The Game Awards, Hideo Kojima was wearing a shirt which read “tjugoandra den sjätte” - Swedish for “twenty-second and sixth”. That would place the release date for the game on a Monday however, which seems unlikely - in America, games are typically released on a Tuesday, while in the UK and much of Europe, they tend to be released on a Friday. It’s not impossible, however - publishers have been known to release games on unconventional days in the past.

Whatever date it’s released, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC (via Steam).
