Fans of Bioware’s critically acclaimed Mass Effect franchise will be pleased to here that the fourth instalment has both an official name and release window; Mass Effect: Andromeda is set for release in holiday 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The reveal trailer - backed by a personal favorite Johnny Cash track - which was showcased at E3 sees an N7 soldier navigating through a galaxy map and readying their weapon, before heading towards a planets surface to fight foes and drive the infamous Mako, a vehicle featured in the franchise since the original Mass Effect.
In some ways, a lot of the features announced don’t come as too much of a surprise. A since-deleted Reddit user posted about taking a survey regarding Mass Effect 4, and with these announcements, it seems that a lot of them coincide with what he was saying.
The actual content of the story still remains a mystery, although Bioware have also published a blog regarding the announcement which confirms that the protagonist will take a human form, with players able to choose a male or a female character. Aaran Flynn, Studio General Manager at BioWare Canada wrote “While we aren’t ready to go into too many details just yet, as you saw in the trailer and can tell by the name, this game is very much a new adventure, taking place far away from and long after the events of the original trilogy. You will play a human, male or female, though that’s actually not the character you saw in the trailer (more on that later). You’ll be exploring an all-new galaxy, Andromeda, and piloting the new and improved Mako you saw. And through it all, you will have a new team of adventurers to work with, learn from, fight alongside of, and fall in love with.”
