Sony is offering fans of the failed indie game Yogventures access to their upcoming MMORPG, Landmark.
Advocated for by the cast of the youtube channel Yogcast, Yogventures was a world-creation game by Winterkewl games. In anticipation fans donated nearly $570,000 for the game. Unfortunately, Winterkewl disbanded due to bankruptcy, and Yogventures was cancelled, causing widespread dismay. A post-cancellation message was later given, but this only raised further ire and questions.
Yogcast co-founderLewis Brindley explained, “The project was proving too ambitious and difficult for them to complete with their six-man team.’ Brindley apologized to fans by adding,’We’re going to do our best to make this right, and make you really glad you backed the project!” True to his word, Yogventurres fans were offered a free steam-key the upcoming world-survival game Tug. This week, Sony followed suit by offering Yogventures fans beta access to Landmark.
But here’s the thing - Landmark is a free-to-play game that is only charging for access during its beta period. So, in essence, backers of Yogventures aren’t getting anything that they wouldn’t already get eventually, other than early access to a beta version lacking fundamental features.
Landmark is an upcoming sandbox MMORPG by Sony. A part of Everquest franchise, Landmark lets players directly build and shape the world around them. Landmark allows the player to explore an open-world by conquering territory, gathering materials and build landmarks across the game. Potentially, many of the player created landmarks and in-game infrastructures could be apart of Sony’s other upcoming MMORPG EverQuest Next.
