Konami has finally revealed the purpose of the chicken hat, that will feature in their upcoming action-adventure stealth game Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain.
First shown by Hideo Kojima during a livestream on Christmas Day for Japanese fans, the developer explained that the chicken hat item will allow the player to skip sections of the game that they deem to be too difficult.
Their sting in the tail? In order to skip those sections, Snake is made to look like a chicken whilst doing so.
Konami has published pictures of the item, in order to explain its purpose in detail.
As the hat implies, players who decide to use it are considered ‘chicken’ for choosing to miss out on the more difficult parts of the game, in both the literal and figurative sense of the word.
There’s still no solid release date for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, although the latest installment in the beloved franchise is scheduled to launch on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC later this year.
