It feels like RPG fans have been waiting forever for Tetsuya Normura’s pet projects Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy XV. Although we have some scant details on Final Fantasy XV, we’re still mostly in the dark with Kingdom Hearts III. However, fans will be able to satiate their appetite for Kingdom Hearts goodness later this year when Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 reMIX releases for the PlayStation 3.
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 reMIX is a compilation that includes HD remasters of Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix (originally released for PlayStation 2), Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (PSP) and a compilation of cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts Re:coded (Nintendo DS).
But as with Final Fantasy X HD Remaster these versions of the games may feel a little unfamiliar to North American gamers. That’s because the titles in the compilation are the Final Mix-enhanced versions of the original releases, that were Japan exclusive until now.
The Final Mix versions of the games come with bonus goodies which include, but are not limited to:
- New mini-games
- New Drive forms
- Additional cutscenes
- A Theatre mode for cutscenes
- Critical Mode Difficulty level
- And more
There are also numerous minor changes such as enemy palette swaps, textures and other details.
Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD reMIX has no specific release date other than some indeterminate time later this year. For now check, out these screenshots from the game. They’re fairly low-res, but in an odd move the publisher has seen fit to release them like that to the press. Normally, we’re provided with assets at a far higher resolution (much to the chagrin of our hard drives).
