Sales of Killzone: Shadow Fall have exceeded 2.1 million units, Sony announced today.
To put that into context, about 4.2 million Playstation 4’s have been sold. So about 50% of people who bought a PS4 purchased a copy of the game to go with it.
Not bad.
SCE president Shuhei Yoshida is pretty happy. “I am thrilled that so many users have been enjoying Killzone Shadow Fall since the launch of PS4,” he said in a press release issued this morning.
Originally debuting on the Playstation 2 with a lackluster first game, the series went on to enjoy a boost in popularity with two more sequels on the PS3 and a pair of handheld offerings - Liberation on the Playstation Portable in 2006, and Mercenaries on the Vita. Shadow Fall was released as a launch title alongside the PS4 late last year. The series pits players against the Helghast - basically a big ol’ race of Space Nazis.
The sales figures for Shadow Fall suggest that the franchise has a bright future, unlike Insomniac Games’ Resistance - another shooter series that was quietly canned after the middling retail performance of Resistance 3.
