Guerilla Games has announced Horizon: Zero Dawn, a third-person adventure title exclusive to the PlayStation 4.
It’s the first original IP in over a decade for the studio, who have devoted themselves to the Killzone franchise since the first game appeared on PlayStation 2 back in 2004. Their last game, Killzone: Shadow Fall was a launch title for PS4, and was released to mixed reviews (including our own).
Horizon: Zero Dawn takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting. Machines have taken over, adopting the forms of cybernetic wildlife, and civilization has devolved into isolated pockets of tribal societies. You play as female hunter Aloy, who embarks on a journey to unravel the mystery surrounding mankind’s fate and ancient technologies.
Gameplay appears to take place in a large open-world setting, while hunting and stealth appear to be a major focus. In the gameplay footage below, Aloy is shown moving slowly through the undergrowth to remain hidden, before firing an arrow at a robot resembling an antelope and triggering what appears to be an emp blast. There’s also what appears to be a giant robot dinosaur roaming past. It’s a bit like a futuristic Jurassic Park, only without the annoying screaming girl.
There’s no set release window as of yet for Horizon, but the game is said to launch later in 2016. In the meantime, feel free to take a gander at the gameplay demo down below.
