Killing Floor 2 Announced

KF

Originally based on a mod on Unreal Tournament 2004, Killing Floor initally debuted in 2005, and was not released commercially until 2009. Since then, developer Tripwire Interactive has gone on to create the critically acclaimed World War II shooter Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingard, a follow-up to their much earlier debt Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-4.

After selling over 1 million copies on Steam, Tripwire Interactive have now announced that they are revisiting the Killing Floor franchise with Killing Floor 2, and have given an exclusive first-look at the title to PC Gamer.

As it was originally conceived as a total conversion mod, the first Killing Floor was made on a small budget, but Tripwire Interactive has since had fantastic success with both the original title and their subsequent releases, allowing them to devote more resources into Killing Floor 2, which translates into superior graphics, clean-cut animation and more blood.

As stated in the first-look article, zombies now have upwards of 95 different kill zones, which is part of Tripwire Interactive’s new gore system, which aims to create more realistic depiction of the damage that bullets would enact. The improved animation extends to the’ living ‘ zombies as well, with enemies reportedly moving far more realistically than in the first Killing Floor due to over 3000 motion capture clips being added to the game. Additionally, the perk system will now be receiving a total overhaul, and will now feature 25 unique levels with different abilities and skills unlocked at each levels.

All in all, it seems as that Tripwire Interactive intends on making the best possible zombie co-op shooter this side of Left 4 Dead with the upcoming release of Killing Floor 2, although no release date has yet been confirmed.

Daniel doesn't just play and write about games, but he also writes his own comics. He can usually be found arguing with Dale about who the best member of the X-Men is (it's Jamie Madrox, obviously)
