In addition to the recent Ratchet & Clank trailer for the upcoming PS4 title, Insomniac appears to be working on a new game for the Oculus Rift. Titled Edge of Nowhere, the game appears to be a third-person adventure game about striking out into the cold wastes of the Arctic mountains. The trailer stars someone named Victor, on a rescue mission to find someone lost, when the expidition appears to rapidly devolve into a surreal world of ice and uncertainty.
Little is known about the game, including a release date. Although it’s likely the official site will have more information soon, there is very little to go on as it is.
Opinion: Most interestingly, Edge of Nowhere seems to be almost entirely void of the usual tropes shown in Oculus games. Without the VR in the title, or specific mention of the Rift, it would be difficult to tell that it’s a game designed to be for the headset at all, which is interesting. Assuming the game does well, it will be interesting to start to see more Oculus titles that are less proof-of-concept for VR, and more exploring how VR will reshape the games we’re currently familiar with.
