Blizzard has announced today at their yearly convention that their MOBA, Heroes of the Storm, will be getting a collection features adding before it enters its beta phase.
New heroes for the game have been revealed in the form of the mage Jaina Proudmore - ruler of Dalaran and Grand Magus of the Kirin Tor - and the shaman Thrall, son of Durotan, both of whom are playable in Blizzard’s online card collection game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. Alongside these, the Lost Vikings - the titular characters from the Game Boy Advance remake - will also be added.
Two new battlegrounds have also been confirmed, the first being the Sky Temple which has a very Ancient Egypt aura about it. Alongside this comes the Tomb of the Spider Queen battleground, which no doubt has taken influence from the Curse of Naxxramas expansion, which was released for Hearthstone earlier this year. Players will have the chance to test out these battlegrounds within the ranked play addition to the game, which will surely help establish Heroes of the Storm as a competitive e-sport. New skins will also be available, expanding the customization already available within the game even further.
Heroes of the Storm is also to enter its beta phase on January 13th 2015. You can sign up now here.
Brian managed to get his hands on the game some time back and highly recommended it: “If you have ever been interested in a MOBA but were unwilling to grind your way through the steep barrier to entry, then Heroes of the Storm is a perfect introduction to the genre. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the more relaxed and casual gameplay that it brings to the table so far, and the lowered time investment needed suits our busy lifestyle.”
These announcements are just some of the plethora of ones that have come from BlizzCon today. From the first card expansion for Hearthstone to a trailer for Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void, Blizzard have also announced their first new IP in seventeen years in the form of Overwatch.
Needless to say, we here at Continue Play have had our inner fangirls come out today.
