With the release of Heroes of the Storm drawing ever so near, Blizzard has set a launch event on June 1st to celebrate the release of their upcoming free-to-play MOBA.
Set London’s Old Billingsgate district, the evening will play host to a live musical performance (sadly not from Elite Tauren Chieftain), developer interviews and several (unannounced) guest appearances. Contests are said to be hosted, along with a unique “collectable item” exclusive for attendee’s to take home after the event.
If you’re interested in coming, you better book in quick. Given the venue capacity, the free tickets come as a “first-come, first-served” basis, with only a limited amount available for the evening.
Fans who aren’t able to make it person can still take part in one of Blizzards live stream of the events, however. Heroes of the Storm is set for launch June 2nd, with tickets for the launch event set to be announced later this week.
Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard’s answer to DotA, and mashes together all of Blizzard’s universes - Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft and The Lost Vikings. Maybe one day they’ll also include characters from Blackthorne and Rock and Roll Racing.
You never know.
With up to 30 playable Heroes spanning some of the most popular franchises in gaming, teams of players battle each other for dominance in traditional lane-based gameplay. Adopting similar cosmetic and Hero purchases as League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm has been carefully positioned as a more accessible point of entry to a genre which has become known for being ruthlessly complex and unwelcoming to newcomers. It’s pretty good, too - Brian Kale previewed Heroes of the Storm for Continue Play, and he was rather taken with it.
“if you are currently invested in another MOBA, then HotS might not be for you. It would be a shame if it wasn’t – because it really is rather good – but some are bound to be put off by the more relaxed style of play on offer here,” Brian wrote in his Heroes of the Storm hands-on. “However, if you have ever been interested in a MOBA but were unwilling to grind your way through the steep barrier to entry, then Heroes of the Storm is a perfect introduction to the genre.”
“Blizzard has created a great way for new players to experience a dynamic genre that has been on the rise in the past few years, and that can only be a good thing.”
