Harmonix announces A City Sleeps

In an abrupt change of form, Rock Band and Dance Central developer Harmonix has announced their next title - a side-scrolling shoot-em-up called A City Sleeps. Fans of the developer’s music games haven’t been left out, however: A City Sleeps bases its gameplay around musical rhythm. Enemies will spawn, move, and attack in time to the music, as will your own attacks.

If this all sounds a bit strange, there’s a very good reason for that. As the title suggests, A City Sleeps takes place inside people’s dreams. You play as Poe, a female dream exorcist who’s out to rid people’s dreams of demons.

“You can learn a lot about a city by exploring it’s dreams,” Poe says in the announcement trailer. “But you can learn a lot more from its nightmares.”

During the game, you’ll also be able to animate ghosts to help you along the way, providing everything from health to offensive capabilities.

A City Sleeps is available to preorder for both Windows PC and Mac via Steam, and is expected to be released in October.

Harmonix is certainly keeping itself busy at the moment - as well as A City Sleeps it’s also currently working on Fantasia, a new Dance Central, Chroma and a remake of Amplitude.
