A while back, we wrote about how Halo: The Master Chief Collection had a ridiculously large day one download that sat at 20 GB. Somehow, that massive 20 GB has now been turned into a slightly less bandwidth-destroying 15 GB (although lets be honest, that’s still huge, especially if you have caps on your data). The content included in the update is the multiplayer portion of the game, a pretty key experience in the Halo games.
The update is available to download now if you’ve pre-ordered the game digitally, so it’s probably a good idea to get that going as soon as possible to avoid sitting on the couch staring at the download percentage on release day on the 11th of November. If you’ve enabled auto-download, the update should be going ahead as you read this.
Good news gang! Day One TU for MCC is up! If you haven't enabled auto download, go get it now!! #HaloMCC

The Master Chief collection includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 4, as well as access to the Halo 5 Guardians multiplayer beta, so the massive size and lack of space on the original shipped disk isn’t too surprising to be honest.
“From the start, our philosophy has been to give Halo fans the best possible experience and not compromise the quality or features of the collection. The result is that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will take up almost all of the usable space of a single Blu-ray (45GB), and we will also issue a content update at launch that is estimated to be 20GB. [now 15]” executive producer Dan Ayoub said last month.
On the upside, each of the campaigns will apparently be playable whilst you download the day one patch according to 343, so those uninterested in multiplayer don’t need to worry about a thing.
“You’ll be able to start playing Campaign and more as the content is installing, with some features and multiplayer content being added via the update. Yes, the update is large, but we weren’t about to cut corners to save disc space,” said Ayoub.
“This ensures that you are getting every bit of Halo goodness we can fit in. Our work is not done, however, as we continue to tune, tweak and optimise the online experience to ensure a smooth multiplayer launch. This will continue right up until launch day.”
Our review of Halo: The Master Chief Collection is forthcoming. Our very own Maddy Richards has been putting it through its paces over the last week, so you can expect it very soon.
