Google Acquires Twitch for Around $1 Billion

With nearly 50 million monthly users both watching and streaming video game content, video game streaming service Twitch has tapped into something powerful - people want to watch people play games.

Like the modern version of the Gameboy circle, where groups of elementary school children would huddle around the one kid playing Pokemon, Google recognized that this was a powerful and profitable phenomenon, and have now entered final negotiations with Twitch to acquire the company for an estimated $1 billion dollars.

The acquisition will be led by Google company YouTube, which was similarly purchased by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion.

While the details of the deal have not yet been released, talks have been in place since May.

Once the acquisition is finalized, things are likely to change over at Twitch, but what these changes could possibly be will likely only be revealed once the acquisition is in full swing.
