Gamescom 2014: Papers Please Coming to PS4 and Vita

Lucas Pope’s passport-control puzzle game Papers Please will be heading to Sony’s PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, it was announced today.

Papers Please puts the player in the role of an immigration officer at a border kiosk for the fictional authoritarian state of Arstotzka. After viewing an immigrant’s travel documents, you’re able to ask them questions about any red flags you might find, and even have a person searched. Ultimately, you’ll have to decide whether or not to allow them into Arstotzka. This is important, as your wages are determined by how many people you’re able to process in your workday, along with any pay-cuts you may have received for missing something. You’ll have to allocate those wages to things like rent and food too, so really, you’re playing for your own survival. Ultimately, your actions can even have an effect on the political future of Arstotzka.

Papers Please was released last year for Windows PC, and Apple OS X. As of yet, there has been no word on a release date for the announced PS4 and Vita ports.

Alex Harrison reviewed Papers, Please for us, scoring it a very respectable 8/10. “Your emotions will be snatched away from you one moment, only for you to be drowned by them the next,” he wrote. “Games allow you to experience another life. None will make you feel more happy for leading a normal life than this.”
