Polish developer CD Projekt RED unveiled new gameplay footage of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt at this year’s GamesCom event.
The trailer shows off six minutes of new gameplay, which takes the player through a short mission. Geralt speaks with a peasant in a village perched above a swamp, who tells him of strange nightmares the villagers have seen night and day. Some of the villagers have even walked away in their sleep, never to be seen again. Geralt runs off into the swamp to confront the evil plaguing the village, and is attacked by a pack of werewolves, which he dispatches with the usual blend of his sword and an arsenal of hard-hitting spells. As he nears the place where the villager claims his people vanished, a mysterious voice goads Geralt to turn back. He presses on.
The trailer shows off a few new gameplay features of Wild Hunt, though the most nobale one is Geralt’s ‘Witcher Sense’, which will allow him to search for clues as he hunts. In the demo, Geralt uses this ability to search a body for marks, giving him a sense of what he’ll have to face. The trailer also showed off the engine’s day/night cycle, switching from a photorealistic sunset with light filtering through the trees, to a dusky night full of ominous shadows. This is more than mere window dressing, however, as you will face different monsters depending on the time of day, just as before.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will hit shelves on February 24th of next year. In the meantime, check out the full GamesCom gameplay trailer below.
