Former Naughty Dog Director Talks Star Wars

By now, it’s common industry news that former Naughty Dog Director and Writer Amy Hennig has formally joined Visceral Games to work as a Creative Director on future Star Wars titles.

Following the announcement, Hennig took to Twitter and posted several comments regarding the transition, reminiscing about the beginning of her career at Electronics Arts, and then concluding by quoting the Master Jedi himself:

“Very excited to share that I’m joining @VisceralGames as Creative Director on a new Star Wars project!

Also very excited to be working alongside my old friend Steve Papoutsis (@leveluptime) again!

I began my career @EA almost a quarter century ago (I have the 1991 Rising Star award from @realtriphawkins to prove it – ha! ; ) It might’ve taken me 23 years, but I’m back – and it’s good to be home @EA !

It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to contribute to the Star Wars universe, after it’s had such a formative influence on my life.

I vividly remember sitting in a theater with my buddy @MatthewRockloff in 1976, seeing the Star Wars trailer for the first time and feeling like the universe clicked into place for me in that moment.

Two amazing things entered my life in 1977 – Star Wars and the Atari 2600. This opportunity is the confluence of the 2 most influential experiences of my youth, and I couldn’t be more excited to go on this journey.

Do… or do not. There is no try.”

It’s exciting to see a talented writer/creative director such as Henning to take on one of the richest IP’s in pop culture, especially given that many Star Wars games have faltered in the past.

Hopefully Hennig will manage where many have failed, and will convey the epic and powerful feelings that were once brought to life by the original trilogy and some of the subsequent media, such as the Genndy Tatakovsky Clone Wars cartoon. One thing’s for sure though, Henning would make a great Jedi Master, and certainty could hold her own with the likes of some of the greatest of the Order.
