Big, muscly men with broad shoulders, sweating and grunting as they all huddle up together. It’s all very homoerotic, isn’t it?
Welcome to American Football, the game that largely doesn’t actually involve a foot touching a ball at all, and is basically Rugby - except a version where the players all get to wear padded armor. And welcome to Blood Bowl 2, the sequel to the game that took American Football and transplanted it into a fantasy world, based on a board game originally set in the Warhammer universe.
The first game was rather excellent indeed, adding a deep layer of strategy and tactics - plus no small amount of slapstick humor - to a sport which a lot of people take - whisper it - a little too seriously. After receiving a huge amount of expansions that added lots of additional races and gameplay features, a full-blown sequel is now on the way, developed once more by Cyanide Studios and published by Focus Home Interactive. We’ve known that it’s coming for a while, but until now we haven’t caught a glimpse of what it actually looks like - at least not in motion. Well, that’s now changed, as Focus Home Interactive has released video footage of a match from the game, showing off a sparkly new graphic engine, improved animations and commentary from Jim Johnson and Bob Bifford.
Set to be released later this year on PC, Blood Bowl 2 features both Solo and Multiplayer modes; the Solo campaign places you in charge of a team in the Blood Bowl League aiming for the top, while the League mode allows you to manage your own team, club and stadium. The multiplayer mode will also be getting significant changes and additions to it, though details at the moment aren’t available.
