Square Enix has confirmed the release date of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on PS4. You’ll be able to pick it up on May 12th in North America for $49.99. In the UK and Europe, you’ll have to wait until March 15th, and then you pick it up for £39.99/ €49.99.

The PS4 version of the classic role playing games features all the content found in the earlier PS3 and Vita releases - so that’s the International versions of both, as well as the Eternal Calm movie which bridges the narrative gap between the games, and the Last Mission post-game content for X-2. And of course you’ll also be able to enjoy the Pokémon-esque Creature Creator feature, as well as the added dresspheres and minigames in X-2.

Unique to the PS4 version of the games is the ability to switch between the original and remastered soundtracks at will - so if you’re a die-hard purist, you no longer have to listen to the rearranged music tracks featured in the remaster. Finally, players who already own the remastered version on PS3 or Vita can transfer their save to PS4, and vice-versa.

Shehzaan Abdulla reviewed the Japanese version of both Final Fantasy X HD and Final Fantasy X-2 HD (they were released separately in Japan), and found that while some of the presentation was a bit spotty, the games still hold up well over a decade since the original release. He gave X HD a score of 8/10, while X-2 HD fared a little worse - coming in with a score of 6/10.

Before you can get your hands on Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on PS4 though, you might still be busy playing through Final Fantasy Type-0 HD. That game, another remaster but this time for a game that previously was only released on PSP in Japan, will be released for PS4 and Xbox One on March 17th (or March 25th if you’re in the UK). Type-0 HD will also come with an exclusive demo of Final Fantasy 15 - but only if you purchase the limited edition “Day One” version of the game; the demo will never be made available to download from PSN or Xbox Live.
