Square Enix has released a new video for Final Fantasy Type 0 HD, showing off some of the work done to bring the game’s visuals up to date for current-gen platforms.
In the video, which you can see below, we see more of the upcoming remaster’s overhauled textures, character models and lighting effects, as well as a number of the game’s large environments.
Final Fantasy Type 0 was originally released in Japan on PSP back in 2011. This latest update sees the game arriving on Western shores, with new graphics and gameplay tweaks. The latest game is decidedly darker and more brutal than previous games in the series, focusing on a bloody conflict between two warring nations. Originally announced as Final Fantasy Agito XIII and intended to be a mobile release, development and the title were both later changed in order to position the game as more of a side-story to the core Final Fantasy games, and to distance it from the divisive Final Fantasy XIII (review here). Combat takes place in real time, with players controlling a group of characters made up from 14 possible candidates.
Final Fantasy Type 0 HD is due for release in March, on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Preorders come with an exclusive demo of the upcoming Final Fantasy XV, the first core installment in the series since the release of Final Fantasy XIII back in 2009 (Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is, of course, an online-only MMORPG - you can read our review of that here).
