As enticing as it is to think that Rockstar is going to release Grand Theft Auto V for PC, it’s just not going to happen, at least not yet. Any attempt to find some sort of secret or pirated copy will bring you nothing but misery, according to the Trend Micro Blog
“You invited Beta tester GTA V to Windows,” an image of an email sent out as part of the spam campaign says, which can be seen below. “Registered this link with promotion code… By creating an account you are agreeing to our Privacy Policy.”
The link in the email will lead to several sites, one of which is a phishing site; attached you will also find .ZIP file containing an application that purports to be an access code but which is actually a known backdoor trojan.
The email is so badly worded (clearly English is not the first language of the virus creators) that you’d think that most people would be able to discern how fake this is, but as noted in the Trend Micro blog post “In this specific case, spammers capitalized on the much-anticipated release date of Grand Theft Auto V on PC, XboxOne, and PS4.
So yes, as great as it would be to have Grand Theft Auto V on the PC, it’s not yet a reality, and this backdoor ‘shortcut’ will only leave your computer more diseased-ridden than a 12th century plague victim.
