Following the 2012 Fanfest Alliance Leader panel, Council of Stellar Management (CSM) chairman Alexander “The Mittani” Gianturco has resigned his position due to drunken remarks he made that incited harrassment of a suicidally depressed player. Gianturco also issued a public apology for his remarks at the Alliance Leaders’ Panel, which is infamous for the raucous behavior of panelists.
The player-elected CSM serves as the main point of contact between players and CCP Studios, performing functions that relate mainly to feedback regarding additions and changes made to Eve Online.
CCP’s VP of Customer Relationship Management, GM Salmon, issued a statement stating “As some of you might have heard, one of the Alliance leaders speaking at the Alliance Panel during Eve Fanfest 2012 breached our EULA/TOS with some ill-advised remarks about a fellow Eve player”. Continuing on, Salmon expresses his regret of the incident; “It goes without saying that CCP deeply regrets this incident and will work towards reducing any possibility of this happening again in the future”.
Salmon mentioned that, following CCP’s standard policies, Gianturco was given a 30-day suspension from Eve Online; and went on to say “The policy of CCP is not to publicly discuss warnings and bans on an individual basis. This situation is entirely unique because the panel was displayed via CCP’s Fanfest video stream component, a platform analogous to our forums. As a result we have published this statement due to the special circumstances involved. However, our policy remains that we will not publicly discuss warnings and bans”.
There has been a public backlash against both Gianturco and CCP on the CCP forums. This response has caused CCP to conduct several internal reviews regarding the incident, the way public relations are handled and how to prevent a repeat of the incident in the future.
Gianturco has been banned from participating in the seventh annual CSM elections, to be held this year, although CCP has stated that Gianturco may be eligible to run for election again in the future, subject to a ‘candidacy review’.
Whilst there is no way for us to contact the victim of the incident, we are led to believe he is fine and has not suffered any long term negative mental effects.
