Sydney-based developer Epiphany Games has announced Majestic Nights: Season One, an episodic RPG thriller set in an alternate 1980 where all conspiracies that we know today are in fact true - including the moon landing. Players take the roles of Cardholder - an intelligence operative why may or may not have been present at (or even responsible for) many of the biggest conspiracies in history, as well as a Private Investigator named Cal whose past is “shrouded in secrets unanswered to even herself”.
“What people don’t understand about the moon landing is that all the conspiracy theorists are totally correct,” said Morgan Lean, the studio head. “People walk around knowing all the facts and yet not seeing the Truth. So if the only way to package the actual reality of the situation is as entertainment, then it’s our responsibility to do exactly that!”
The game has been developed with what are being called “fast light mechanics”, which promise to engross the players in a shady over-the-top 1980′s world of conspiracy. Players will have to use their wits, secrecy and even a little force to uncover the clues of these massive conspiracies.
“We wanted to create a game that was simple to play and just let people dive into the story,” said Sam Jensen, lead designer. “The story and the world are the forefront of this game – they’re the star of the show and we want everything the game does to support that.”
Season One of Majestic Nights takes place over six chapters, which can work as either a complete story or as separate standalone experiences. Chapter Zero – Sunset After Dark, a prologue to the series, will be made available for free in September, though each subsequent chapter will need to be be paid for, though season passes will be available. Majestic Nights is due for release on PC, Mac, iOS and Android. The first “proper” episode, Cover Genesis, will be released in October, with subsequent episodes being released over a six-month period.
