Square has released a 20 minute video of the Symphonic Poem, a special arrangement of tracks taken from Final Fantasy VI and performed by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

Arranged for the Final Symphony series of concerts celebrating music from the series, the Symphonic Poem aims to tell the story of the game’s lead character, Terra Branford and include Kefka’s theme and Terra’s main theme, among others. The score for Final Fantasy VI, of course, was originally penned by veteran composer Nobuo Uematsu and is regarded by many as one of the best Final Fantasy soundtracks. Final Fantasy VI is currently in it’s 20th anniversary, and it’s as great now as it was on the SNES all the way back in 1994. On more modern systems, it’s been made available to download via Nintendo’s Virtual Console service (as a port of the Game Boy Advance version), as well as on iOS, Android and PS3/ Vita via the PS One Classic service on PSN.

“The music of Nobuo Uematsu remains as powerful and as moving today as it did when we first heard it twenty years ago,” said Final Symphony producer Thomas Böcker. “It’s been an honour and a pleasure to bring his music to the concert hall and now, for the first time ever, we’re delighted to be able to share the Symphonic Poem online with the world in this, Final Fantasy VI’s 20th anniversary year. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the world’s finest orchestras, with a long tradition of performing video gaming’s best-loved melodies, and they have produced a concert video that does true justice to the music.”

It’s a must-listen if you’re a fan of Nobuo Uematsu’s work, or videogame music in general. You can view the video by following this link.
