EA UFC Sports has been getting quite a bit of attention from us recently. For good reason, as it’s the first game based on the real-life MMA sport since EA acquired the license from the now defunct THQ, and the first time the series will grace the new generation consoles, the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Oh, and did we mention you get to play as Bruce Lee?

Well, the good news is that players will be able to take control the games’ seemingly huge roster, including the aforementioned Bruce Lee and first UFC champ Royce Gracie, as of today. In spite of all the available characters, publisher EA has stated that “To make sure the game stays connected to the sport, post-launch, players will receive free roster updates, which includes the addition of new and upcoming fighters.”

The game’s career mode, where players can fail in their career and be forced into early retirement if they don’t play carefully, also sounds like a way to faithfully connect to the sport. In contrast the ability to pit characters of different weight classes against each other is anything but, but that’s a concession we’re willing to put up with if it means setting up some MMA dream matches of our own.

If you’re still on the fence though, you might be interested in trying out the 2.77GB demo for the game.
