EA has today released their mobile remake of the classic and beloved 1990’s PC game Dungeon Keeper.
The new game has been developed by EA Mythic. The original, of course, was developed by Peter Molyneux and the legendary Bullfrog Games.
Nick Earl, Senior Vice President of EA Mobile said that the “recent surge of popularity of core mobile games” is the reason for releasing the game, perhaps after having seen the massive success and profits of games like Candy Crush acting as an incentive.
He went on further to say EA has “reimagined the classic title and built it specifically for mobile platforms”. This means it will be a different experience from the Dungeon Keeper of old, “giving longtime Dungeon Keeper fans a new way to delve into the fun of this legendary title on the go.
In Dungeon Keeper the player has to build a dungeon and defend it from different enemies by summoning creatures and placing traps. Players will have the ability to attack each other dungeons and plunder loot, similar to the upcoming Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, currently in development by Ubisoft.
The game is free to play for those willing to wait: levels are blocked off for a set period of time unless you unlock them with gems, which can only be purchased through reasonably expensive real money transactions. In-app purchases are something of a hot topic at the moment - the UK’s Office of Fair Trading has tightened their regulations, giving mobile game developers just 2 months to adhere to their new guidelines.
