EA Studios’ executive vice president Patrick Söderlund has confirmed in an interview with Polygon.com that EA and Visceral have intentions on creating a new installment in the Dead Space franchise, after having been questioned about the various games the two companies are currently developing, such as Hardline and the upcoming Star Wars game.
He did however express his slight underlying reluctance to do so, by saying that “we have to think about what made the previous ones successful and how we go about envisioning Dead Space for a new generation”. As we all know, sequels are some of the most challenging things to get right in both games and films, so it’s somewhat refreshing to see an executive who does take this into account and doesn’t want to ruin what is an incredible game franchise (though in the eyes of some, Dead Space 3 already accomplished that).
We must keep in mind that there is no certainty as to whether another Dead Space game will come about, but Soderlund did confirm that there is the possibility of it happening, “Now, I’m not announcing a Dead Space game. We’re not building one just to be very clear, but I’m saying is there an opportunity or possibility to do one in the future? Absolutely”.
