EA Avoids a Three-peat as Worst Company in America

Three-peats are pretty difficult to pull of, and are typically associated with sports, particularly when you are Micheal Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaq or the New York Yankees from 1998 to 2000. Being voted the ‘worst company in America’ by Consumerist three times in a row is definitely not a three-peat you want on your record, and EA deftly avoided this, being knocked out in the first round of the coveted competition that every mega-corporation aspires to win.

As the great Omar Little from The Wire once said, “You come at the king, you best not miss,” and EA really dodged a bullet on this one, losing out to Time Warner Cable with a consumer vote of 51.2 percent Time Warner to 48.8 percent EA. The Net Neutrality fiasco likely had a lot to do with this, and even EA’s debacle of the Sim City launch and the underwhelming Battlefield 4 launch.

It’s likely a good thing though that EA is no longer being demonized in this competition. Given that there are companies out there that literally deny people basic coverage and evict them from their homes, EA’s missteps seem fairly tame in comparison. Really though, this whole ‘contest’ goes to show you that while gamers can definitely be some of the kindest and most generous of folks, they can also be some of the most petty people in existence when you mess with their games or Internet, as Time Warner is now finding out the hard way.

Besides, EA was given a perfect score in the 2014 Corporate Equality Index by the Human Rights Campaign regarding their great treatment of LGBT employees, so they’re definitely far from the worst corporation out there in our book. Then again, Time Warner is also doing pretty well in that regard, so it seems like consumer missteps really out-trumps corporate culture in the ‘golden poo’ awards.
