Ubisoft has announced the existence of Tom Clancy’s The Division during their E3 presentation.
The Division is a vast, open-world RPG mixing elements of survival horror, multiplayer gaming and a system of choice and consequence reminiscent of Bioware’s Mass Effect and CD Projekt’s The Witcher.
Taking place across a number of cities which players can freely move between, the game is set in the near future. The world has been ravaged by a virus and familiar organizations such as Third Echelon (from Splinter Cell) have ceased to exist. Civilization has crumbled since the outbreak, leaving the player - a member of the Strategic Homeland Division - to try and pick up the pieces.
Inspired by the real-life Operation Dark Winter, The Division is aiming for a believable and harrowing atmosphere, examining how the world would react to a global viral outbreak.
To go with the announcement, the publisher has released a 7-minute long gameplay trailer, which you can view above.
