Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) is bringing their MMO first-person shooter PlanetSide 2 to PlayStation 4 later this year.
Earlier today, SOE released a trailer showing off the large-scale battles that the franchise has become known for. PlanetSide 2 was released for PC back in 2012 as a remake to the original PlanetSide from 2003, now featuring enhanced graphics in what SOE is calling “Maxed out settings” for the update.
The constant struggle between the warring factions of PlanetSide 2 takes place on sprawling continents, each with a unique geography and design which combine to create different types of war zones. The online player-versus-player battles can have up to 2,000 participants struggling for control of strategic positions on the world map. Players can utilize ground and air vehicles to assault and defend choke points as they gain unique skills and other perks .
PlantSide 2 was originally intended to be released as a launch title for PlayStation 4 before it was delayed, and unfortunately SOE has still not given a concrete release date outside of later this year. Hopefully at next week’s E3, full details on the release date and any updated features will be announced. While you wait, enjoy the trailer.
