Indie developer PlayDead, who brought us the marvelously simplistic and terrifying Limbo, debuted their first trailer for the upcoming platformer Inside. In true PlayDead fashion, our young protagonist slogs through a dreary, Orwellian dystopia, through the rain and grime, down rusty pipes and over perilous gaps, while in the background we witness the seemingly enslaved drudgery of the masses.
Unlike the relative silence of Limbo‘s protagonist child, Inside‘s is clearly frightened for his life. Throughout the trailer, his heavy breathing is laden with fear while we catch glimpses of grimy factories, dead landscapes, and we feel the overwhelming presence of the agency responsible for our new world order.
Another interesting deviation from their first title, Inside has just a touch of color which through its minimalism defines the drab overworld with sharp clarity. Unlike its predecessor, the world of the organic is largely forgotten as we see our protagonist sneak through abandoned lots, decrepit factories, and alleyways.
Beyond this release trailer, not much else is known about this new dystopia besides a brief “first half of 2015″ release date, but PlayDead looks like it’s bringing us another frighteningly captivating platformer.
