Dying Light Release Date Announced

Techland has announced the release date for its highly anticipated action survival game, Dying Light. It’ll be hitting stores in 2015 on January 27 in the Americas, January 28 in Australia and New Zealand, and January 30 in Europe and Asia.

Dyling Light can currently be preordered from the game’s official website. Preorders come with a chunk of free DLC entitled Be the Zombie. In this player-on-player asymmetric multiplayer mode, you invade other players’ games as the Night Hunter - a powerful zombie with unique skills and abilities.

Full details of this mode haven’t been announced yet - including whether it’ll be available as DLC after launch to those who didn’t preorder, though it seems inevitable. If not, it could potentially limit what currently seems like an interesting concept, so we’ll have to wait for more information on that.

Be the Zombie will also tie in with the game’s Natural Movement system, which is explained in a new Dev Diary that you can watch below. Fans of Mirror’s Edge and Dark Souls are in for a treat.

Natural Movement is a newly designed system that allows the player to traverse around the city of Harran with “ease and precision”, blending parkour with fighting mechanics. Whether or not this will truly feel unique compared to the free-running mechanics of games like Mirror’s Edge remains to be seen, but it certainly looks like a fun way to kill zombies.

I’m definitely excited as to how it will play into the nighttime mechanics, which sees zombies becoming more powerful and much faster once the sun goes down. You’ll have the choice between flight or fight, playing in the way that you deem most appropriate.

We’re all looking forward to more news about Dying Light, so make sure to follow us on Twitter or Facebook to stay up to date.
