In a press release earlier today, Techland -developer of the anticipated upcoming first-person survival horror game Dying Light - announced that they have pushed back the release date to February 2015. This new release date is several months past the original release plan for late 2014, but Techland has said that they are committed to their original vision of “free and natural movement” within an open-world game.
“We believe the Natural Movement element of our game will change what you expect from the genre, and we don’t want to sacrifice any of its potential by releasing too early. This quality-focused thinking underlines all our development choices and we hope you share our belief that the gameplay must always come first,” said the developer in an official statement.
“The new date ensures that we can fully realize our vision of an innovative open-world game. We won’t need to make compromises or trade-offs on any of the five platforms we’re working on. For you, it means an outstanding, original game that makes the wait more than worthwhile.”
Techland also announced that at this year’s E3 there will be hands-on demos for fans to get a feel for Dying Light, to see where their hard work has gone. Also at E3, Techland will be discussing all the features and aspects of Dying Light, shedding light on more of the gameplay for fans.
Finally, Techland went on to say that their publisher, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, has given them full support to move the release date back to fine tune the quality aspects of the game.
While it’s disappointing that such a highly anticipated release was pushed back until next year, one can hope that the extra time will give Techland the time they need to polish Day Light. We’ll bring any updated announcements on Dying Light as we get them.
