If you buy Destiny on PS3 or Xbox 360, you will be able to transfer your purchase over to your respective next gen console, PS4 or Xbox One, via a free digital download.
Destiny is out today, by the way. Just in case you weren’t aware.
This deal exists for all versions of the game including the Guardian Edition and Destiny’s Expansion pass.
The upgrade lasts up until January 15, 2015. The way this works is if a person buys Destiny for their console of choice before the deadline, they will be able to upgrade to digital download within the same time constraints.
Similar upgrades like this have been seen on other multiplatform releases, such as with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag which similarly transferred your purchase over to next gen consoles - but for an additional $10, and you had to insert the PS3/Xbox 360 disk into your PS4 or Xbox One to access the digital downloaded version of the game.
All of your player progression and equipment is saved online; so long as you use the same account, you can transfer over your game stats and earnings to your upgraded version of Destiny.
