Blizzard has revealed details on the next major content patch for Diablo 3.

Patch 2.3.0 will add a new zone called the Ruins of Sescheron to the game, where players will fight to survive as they attempt find the lost Tomb of King Kanai and the treasure that lies within: Kanai’s Cube. This artifact, according to the post, will give players “the ability to break down Legendary items and equip their special effects as passive skills,” as well as various other abilities.

That’s a pretty desirable artifact.

The new patch will also include an updated crafting system and adventure mode. The new crafting system will enable players to use the same crafting mats (available originally only to level 70 players) as they level up. The updated adventure mode is designed to improve pacing by removing the Realm of Trials and improve the rewards granted by completing Bounties.

Other additions to the patch include the new Season Journey feature (an interface giving players the ability to track their progress), new difficulty levels, new legendary and set items, and various changes to combat. Diablo 3‘s first expansion, Reaper of Souls, came out in March of this year and was widely praised for the amount of new content and improved gameplay. Since then, Blizzard has made good on its promise to improve the gameplay features over time through major downloadable content updates.

Dale reviewed Reaper of Souls upon its release on PC, awarding it 9/10. “A truly excellent expansion, Reaper of Souls doesn’t suffer from the minor problems with its storytelling, or the fact that not all of its environmental changes have been made retroactive,” Dale wrote in his Reaper of Souls review.

“Reaper of Souls manages to fix the majority of the original game’s flaws, provides more than enough new gameplay to keep players going for a while, and fully justifies its price tag.”
