Destiny‘s alpha stage was supposed to end last night at 11:59pm PST but in a tweet in the early morning hours, developer Bungie had the following to say:
There's a rumor that the #Destiny Alpha might be extended to allow dangerous experiments. Play beyond the official close at your own risk!
— Bungie (@Bungie) June 16, 2024
It seems clear that the space-age FPS has had its play time extended, as players could still log in and continue with their characters or experiment with another class well after the initial alpha close time, but as to what those “dangerous experiments” might be, we don’t currently know.
Their twitter feed was later updated with:
Yup. Alpha still works. Now, we're gonna test it in expert mode. If you're still playing, pardon our dust. This is for the Beta!

We sense a lot of dead players in 3, 2, 1…
Destiny is due for release on Sept. 9, 2014 on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Internal discussions about a possible PC version are apparently still underway.
