Publisher Daedalic has announced a sequel to their turn-based strategy role-playing game Blackguards, tentaively scheduled for release in early 2015. Daedalic released Blackguards earlier this year on Steam to a generally positive response and Blackguards 2 will pick up the story a few years after the events of the first game.
The scoundrel heroes from the first game will all make their return, but their time off from the battlefield between installments has not been kind to them. Naurim the dwarf has exhausted his fame and riches on late night parties and feasts, growing fat and lazy in the process. The Wizard Zubaran was captured by his former mistress of magic and sold into slavery, where he has remained shackled and beaten over the years. Meanwhile, gladiator Takate is now bored after defeating the Nine Hordes, feeling that there are no more challenges left in life. The main protagonist of the first game, Cassia now has her ambitions set to rule the Shark Throne, and she seeks the former Blackguards and their power to aid her aspirations.
The gameplay of Blackguards 2 will stick to the turn-based combat based off the rules set in the Dark Eye rulebook, but will feature some optimizations that have been implemented to streamline combat. Players returning to the series can expect improvements to line of sight, cover mechanics, and formation commands for the party of heroes. A stamina mechanic has been added to give battles another resource for players to manage, which is a common mechanic for strategy RPGs.
These are all the details announced by Daedalic so far and there are sure to be more as they continue to advance the gameplay and storyline of the franchise. We’ll bring you further details about Blackguards2 as they’re announced.
