Bioshock out now on iOS

Ports aren’t anything new by any stretch of the imagination, but now we can revisit Rapture in all its terrifying glory with the release of Bioshock on iOS. There are no changes, either, besides a “minimal” downgrade in graphics for optimal gameplay and the ability to squish the entire city into Apple’s limited 2GB storage. This aside, the entire story in its original form is available just as it was for its initial release back in 2007.

It’s suggested that it would probably be easiest to play with a Bluetooth controller, though developer 2K China has tried to ease the touch-screen experience by increasing the tightness of the auto-aim feature and making the on-screen enemies easier to hit. We’ll have to see how that plays out.

Of course, it’s not cheap - at least not by mobile standards. iOS users can purchase Bioshock for $14.99 (though that’s still cheaper than Steam’s version for $19.99 when not on sale). Still, it will probably do fairly well on the market considering how strong the nostalgic pull has been recently. The game might also appeal to a younger generation of gamers, too, keeping this classic series alive for that much longer.

Our man Nic looked back at Bioshock in his Retrospective Review back in March. Scoring it 9/10, he concluded by saying that “while it doesn’t always manage to live up to its own ambitions in the gameplay department, the writing is second to none.” - high praise indeed.

We’re still wondering where the Android love is, though.
