Today, Microsoft announced they’ll be rolling out an update for their Xbox One, this one focusing on social and mobile features. The intention of this update looks to make sharing your gaming experiences with your friends easier and to make a couple annoyances far more convenient. Here’s a breakdown of some of what to expect:
Fancy new activity feed - Microsoft is making it so users can post text to their activity feed and ‘like’ and comment on other peoples’ posts. With this feed, users will also be able to share game clips with each other, both publicly and privately. In a world increasingly dominated by social networks, this is a logical move for Microsoft, especially considering that social interactions on the console’s predecessor were a major selling point.
Keep track of your friends - Players will also be able to easily keep track of their friends’ gamerscores, the most played games among them, and whatever other activities they may be up to.
Mobile purchasing - Players will now be able to buy games and additional content directly from their phones, and their Xbox One can immediately start downloading it. Waiting around for long downloads to complete can now be a thing of the past.
Turn off notifications during video - Players will now be able disable notifications for when they’re watching videos. Long live immersion!
Low battery notifications - Perhaps the holy grail of this update, a notification will now pop up on your screen when your controller is starting to run out of juice. There’s nothing quite as frustrating as a controller dying in the middle of a game, so it’s about time Microsoft implemented this.
Apparently, Microsoft’s Xbox Feedback program, where players directly communicate their wants and needs with the company, played a big role in this update’s content. Players with ‘Early Access’ will be able to enjoy some of these features as early as next week and will be able to give feedback on them leading up to the official release sometime next month.
