Atari has announced plans for their new corporate strategy for the future of their company, transitioning into the new “digital era” of videogames as they rebound from the decline of physical sales.
Atari’s plans for the new digital marketplace will focus on videogames, online casinos, exclusive digital content, and licensing of hardware and appeal. The company already has a widely recognized brand dating back to Pong and Asteroids that has helped their sale of branded apparel. But it has been some time since the success of their early console titles that gained them household recognition, and Atari plans on expanding into online and mobile platforms.
Chief Executive Officer Fred Chesnais had this to say about the new direction Atari is taking: “Atari is more than a game publishing company; it’s an iconic brand that has established a passionate and timeless culture. Known across multiple generations around the world, Atari will continue to embrace all audiences. What the company has accomplished over the years is no small feat, but there is more to come. We’re looking forward to delivering on our new strategy and engaging with our audience in new ways across multiple channels as the next era of Atari unfolds. We are leading a rebuilding exercise in a highly volatile industry, so at the same time we are also aware of the challenges that lay ahead.”
Expect Atari to update and modernize their classic game library for mobile and PC digital platforms as they transition into the modern digital age of gaming. Hopefully they will land on their feet and adapt to avoid the road that Capcom seems to be headed down.
