The first DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight will arrive on July 14th, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has announced.
Batgirl: A Matter of Family is a prequel to Arkham Knight‘s main story, and features Batgirl as a playable character. The add-on features an “all-new location with multiple missions, side quests and secrets”, according to the publisher. The dual play mechanic from the main game will return, as Batgirl fights side-by-side with Robin.
The release date of July 14th applies only if you’ve purchased Arkham Knight‘s season pass. If you haven’t, the DLC will be available as a standalone download a week later on July 21st, costing $6.99/ £5.79. The DLC wasn’t developed by Rocksteady; instead, Arkham Origins developer WB Montreal took on development duties. WB Montreal recently started advertising jobs for a new open-world game based on an original IP.
Our review of Batman: Arkham Knight went live on the site late last week, written by yours truly. I scored Rocksteady’s final outing with the Dark Knight a solid 9/10, praising the game’s story and presentation. I wasn’t a big fan of the Batmobile though, which feels shoved in your face at every available opportunity.
“Asylum and City delivered fantastic narratives which pulled you through the campaign and left you wanting more, and Arkham Knight is no different,” I wrote in my Batman: Arkham Knight review. “It’s not the best game in the series – that honor is still held by Asylum – but Batman: Arkham Knight is a game you want to savor, a game that you’ll want to take your time with simply because you don’t want it to end.”
