Alien: Isolation might be tearing up the charts and causing plenty of pants to get a bit brown, but it’s not the only game with an Alien in it to be worthy of your time.
While it looks a bit long in the tooth now, Rebellion’s franchise crossover Alien vs. Predator - originally released way back in 2000 - is available for free on GOG.com. The giveaway will last for another 22 hours, but does come with a catch - you have to sign up for GOG Galaxy’s beta.
GOG galaxy is a Steam-esque online platform offering DRM-free versions of hundreds of games, including The Witcher 2 and Baldur’s Gate 2, many forgotten classics, and a large number of Indie titles. GOG also recently branched into offering films, with a small, but growing number of game-related titles. In addition, on launch Galaxy will come with full Steam integration, though how GOG.com is managing that is unknown. GOG Galaxy is powering AvP‘s cross-platform multiplayer. While participating in the beta testing might seem like a bother, if you’re a true fan of Alien vs. Predator its a small price to pay. Rebellion’s game is a minor classic, allowing you to play as either a Marine, an Alien or a Predator, each with their own unique abilities and methods of attack. You might want to keep a sick bag nearby before playing as the Alien, though: the 360-degree movement can be a bit disorienting and cause motion sickness.
