The Order: 1886 was only released a few days ago and there is already talk of a possible sequel - at least, that’s according to a trusted industry insider who goes by the name “shinobi602″.
Posting on NeoGAF about Ready At Dawn and The Order: 1886’s development, sinobi602 said: “They’re about 120-130 employees there. Not exactly small, but not huge either. From the conversations I’ve had, they spent a huge amount of time perfecting the engine for this initial instalment. Time constraints came into play, goals slashed, but that’s not really uncommon in development. “
“However, what has me most excited is that the main focus in a possible sequel are the gameplay systems,” he continued. “That’s what was stated to me. The engine is in place and they’re free to put all their efforts into gameplay design. And they want to do this, it isn’t a result of any backlash over The Order’s design, they as a team want that. By no means do they think the game’s perfect as it is.”
If you’re a fan of The Order: 1886, don’t get too excited just yet. shinobi602 commented and clarified that this doesn’t mean that the sequel is already in the works - it hasn’t been given the green light by Sony just yet, although the game has performed well in sales (if not reviews). The comments just mean that we probably won’t be waiting long for some kind of official confirmation. “I wasn’t saying that a sequel’s already greenlit,” he said, “but I can tell you it certainly won’t take 3 years.”
Of course there’s also the possibility that this is all complete hogwash - and, as always, these comments should be taken with a hefty pinch of salt. However, shinibo602 has been a reliable source in the past, and with the way that The Order: 18866 ends, it’s pretty clear thatthe guys over at Ready at Dawn were at least thinking about a sequel ahead of the first game’s release. We’ll have to wait and see.
